Seed Dispersal: Same Gene, Different Organs

چکیده
A single nucleotide change in a conserved promoter element is responsible for both human-selected retention of rice grains on pedicels and for naturally selected differences in dehiscence-associated fruit structures in mustards.

The Same Regulatory Point Mutation Changed Seed-Dispersal Structures in Evolution and Domestication
It is unclear whether gene regulatory changes that drive evolution at the population and species levels [1-3] can be extrapolated to higher taxonomic levels. Here, we investigated the role of cis-regulatory changes in fruit evolution within the Brassicaceae family. REPLUMLESS (RPL, At5g02030) controls development of the replum, a structure with an important role in fruit opening and seed disper...
متن کاملEndozoochorous seed dispersal of plant species in semi-steppe rangelands
During last two decades studies on endozoochorous seed dispersal indicated that a large numbers of plant seeds are potentially dispersed and suceefully germinated via animal dung. However, very little is known about the relative importance of endozoochory in germination success of plant species in semi-steppe rangelands. In this paper we examined dung germinating seed content, seed deposition p...
متن کاملPlant Sexual Reproduction : Aspects of Interaction , History and Regulation Michiel
Sexual reproduction in angiosperms is an interactive process involving the sporophyte, gametophytes, embryo and endosperm as well as the environment, aimed at achieving pollination, fertilization and dispersal. This interaction occurs via an interface with nutrients and signals outside the cell and even outside the plant. Sexual reproduction has a history. In water, algae have different types o...

متن کاملWhodispersed the seeds? The use of DNAbarcoding in frugivory and seed dispersal studies
1. Assessing dispersal events in plants faces important challenges and limitations. A methodological issue that limits advances in our understanding of seed dissemination by frugivorous animals is identifying ‘which species dispersed the seeds’. This is essential for assessing how multiple frugivore species contribute distinctly to critical dispersal events such as seed delivery to safe sites, ...
